Job Description
The Writing Center is seeking Writing Fellows (i.e., student writing tutors) who are rising sophomores or juniors and/or MA Graduate students.
Fellows will support students through individual tutoring conferences with student writers from across the curriculum. Writing Fellows coach students in the writing process, model excellent writing practices, and direct students to other writing resources available in the Writing Center, across campus, and online. In addition, Writing Fellows work with the entire Writing Center staff to create an environment of writing excellence that may include activities such as promoting the Writing Center services and developing student-centered workshops, events, and resources.
The Writing Center values diverse teaching and learning styles and seeks to create a welcoming environment for the entire SUA community. Tutor training and professional development are ongoing as a member of the Writing Center community.
Hours are flexible between 10-20 hours per week to be mutually agreed upon.
Job Description Qualifications: Successful applicants will demonstrate:
- Passion for supporting peers with writing across concentrations and disciplines, including academic assignments and personal/professional documents (e.g., resumes, cover letters, grant applications, graduate school applications, etc.).
- Familiarity with reading strategies, presentation preparation, and academic skills such as goal-setting, organization, and time management.
- An inquisitive mindset, openness to feedback, and a collaborative spirit grounded in curiosity and peer learning.
- A commitment to collegiality and to fostering a supportive, nonjudgmental environment for all writers and all Writing Center staff members.
- A willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development related to writing, tutoring, and SUA's mission and founding principles.
- familiarity and appreciation for the Writing Center by having met with a Writing Fellow or Writing Specialist more than once.
- good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.7.
Qualifications Desired:
Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience is a plus. Fluency in multiple languages is a plus. Experience working with neurodiverse students is a plus.

Pay Range 16.50
The base salary range for this position is listed above. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, experience and geographic location.
