Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Work with the Environmental Education Program Coordinator to plan, direct, and supervise the Environmental Education program and staff, providing an educationally enriching program in the tradition of the Catholic faith. Each position employed with CYO Camping and Guest Services helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.


ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
  1. Plan, implement, and supervise the Environmental Education program, under the direction of the Outdoor Education Program Coordinators and the Director of CYO Camps.
  1. Meet tangible program and educational goals.
  1. Provide leadership in all areas of the program; including but not limited to whole group direction, teaching lessons, leading meals, organizing mass, playing games, leading challenge course activities, and evening programming.
  1. Create a welcoming atmosphere for schools to have an exceptional learning environment. This includes pre-camp communication with schools.
  1. Train and evaluate the Teacher Naturalists and the program on an ongoing basis in collaboration with the schools.
  1. Work with staff and teachers to deal with student, chaperone and teacher needs, staff relations, and program development.
  1. Respond to and report emergency situations that may arise during the season.
  1. Share on-call duty during the nighttime hours.
  1. Direct pre- and post- session camp clean-up.
  1. Provide general camp support- i.e. low ropes and initiatives facilitation, kitchen and facilities clean-up, luggage transportation, etc.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary:
  1. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  1. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
Education:
  1. BA or BS degree in an applicable field or significant qualifying experience.
Experience:
  1. Previous experience with facilitating and leading environmental education programs.
  1. Demonstrated understanding of youth development and child behavior management.
  1. Previous experience working with diverse populations.
Other Elements:
  1. Ability to set and meet deadlines.
  1. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  1. Proactive customer service and problem-solving skills.
  1. Commitment to the mission and values of CYO.
  1. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Comfortable with public speaking, teaching, and working with teachers and chaperones.
  1. Must have current CPR/First Aid certification, and Food Handler's permit, challenge course certifications or willingness to obtain through our training programs.
  1. Willingness to work outside in a variety of weather for long periods.
  1. Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
