American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 trauma adult medical specialty Med/Surg unit in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 56-bed adult medical specialty Med/Surg unit
  • Unit cares for general medical and acute care patients including diagnoses such as cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, respiratory failure, liver and kidney failure, and behavioral health/addictions
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during day/evening shifts and 1:5-6 overnight
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR, with preference for candidates with EPIC experience
  • Three 12-hour day shifts per week scheduled 0700-1900, with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
  • Floating to other acute general medicine areas such as nephrology, neuro, ortho, and oncology may be required
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Responsible for acute and general medical patient care, including care for complex conditions and device management
  • Free charge RN present on each shift for support
  • Patient care technicians provide assistance with vital signs, glucose checks, bladder scans, and ADLs with typical ratio of 1:8-10
  • Unit uses Bipap and Cpap for sleep apnea, with medication administration and suctioning as needed
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is supported with access to live strips via Philips monitor packs or computer
  • Orientation consists of 2-3 shifts specific to the unit, with 12 additional non-billable orientation hours
  • Any color professional scrubs permitted; no visible tattoos or non-ear piercings allowed

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification through AHA required
  • Minimum of 1 year recent RN experience on a Med/Surg floor
  • Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required
  • EPIC EMR experience strongly preferred
  • Prior Level 1 trauma center experience or travel experience highly valued
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays as scheduled
