The Supervisor of Goodwill Counseling Services (GCS) will supervise and support the GCS team. The focus will be on ensuring that counseling services are offered to all employees and participants within the organization. The supervisor is responsible for developing the structure and organization of the unit so that it can provide counseling services to Goodwill Central Texas. The supervisor will work collaboratively with the various programs to obtain referrals. This position will provide individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling to participants of Goodwill Counseling Services.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and supervise mental health counselors.
  • Develop program structure and organization to introduce counseling services to all areas of the organization.
  • Provide appropriate, person-centered, evidence based, best practice therapeutic interventions to participants.
  • Perform interviews and utilize various assessments to identify presenting problems and gather relevant psychosocial history and facts that will assist in determining most appropriate intervention.
  • Collaborate with client to identify therapy goals and develop treatment plan.
  • Provide individual and group therapy in accordance with evidence based practices with a focus on issues related to employment such as stress management, positive interpersonal skills and communication skills, conflict resolution, and increased coping skills.
  • Appropriately refer clients to community counseling resources for identified mental health issues that require long term treatment
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of community crisis intervention services and be available to provide crisis interventions as needed with all Workforce Advancement clients as necessary.
  • Provide individual consultation and group trainings to all Workforce Advancement staff to process complex client situation and provide ongoing professional development as needed
  • Build and maintain college and university partnerships to support Goodwill Counseling services in internship and practicum opportunities.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and prepare reports as requested.
  • Maintain licensure as required by licensing board.
  • Attend professional development trainings as required by licensing board.
  • Ability to evaluate options and provide information for participant to choose appropriate action.
  • Be knowledgeable and able to provide information and referrals for community based services.
  • Read and understand complicated and detailed correspondence and reports, regulations, and policy directives.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities over Goodwill Counseling Services.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, Professional Counseling, or a related field.
  • Professional Counseling or Social Work license including but not limited to LPC-I, LMFT-A, or LMSW
  • Two or more years of experience working in social services and/or providing counseling.
  • Two years of experience supervising staff.
  • Must have good analytical, thinking, interview, interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer operation, networking, and communication.
  • Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, liability insurance, and vehicle in good working condition to travel on work related business.
  • EMDR certified preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
