Location: South Royalton, VT, on-campus

$22/hour

Position Summary:

This position plays an important role in daily café and catering food preparation. Key activities include setting up and stocking of lines, preparation of ingredients (chopping, mixing, etc.), cooking and preparation of daily menu and grab & go items, as well as production of varied menus for events. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and kitchen, this role also plays a role in inventory management, ensures food quality and safety, and collaborates daily with other kitchen staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all necessary supplies and ingredients are readily available.
  • Prep duties - chop vegetables, portion meats, prepare sauces, and other tasks to prep food for use in daily operations and catered events.
  • Prepare dishes according to recipes and standards, using various cooking methods, including production of short order tickets.
  • Follow health and safety regulations, clean work areas, and properly store food.
  • Monitor supplies, potentially taking inventory, and reporting shortages.
  • Work with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and timely food preparation.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meets the standards of the Chef and the VLGS café.
Requirements:

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Proficiency in various cooking methods and techniques. Minimum of 2 years of previous experience.
  • Banquets and catering experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a clean and efficient workspace.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff.
  • Ability to be flexible and support all areas of need for the food service department.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions from the Chef and communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Understanding of food handling and sanitation procedures. SERV Safe certification preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines and reorganize under pressure.
  • Must be able to work legally within the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
