Job Description

Position Objective: Provide services as a Scientist in support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Immunogenetics (LIG), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the development of next-generation monoclonal antibody therapeutics to treat human disease, including highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
• Perform B cell screening and sequencing to identify new monoclonal antibodies targeting P. falciparum by using clinical patient samples.
• Perform next-generation sequencing using the Illumina platform, including library preparation and the use of index barcoding.
• Provide analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
• Perform molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning and PCR.
• Perform cell culture and recombinant protein production.
• Provide upkeep and routine maintenance for project, maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc., required to handle biological materials, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc., maintaining work bench and equipment related to projects.
• Catalog and label laboratory samples and consumables. Liaise with vendors as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide meetings and for publication.
• Write reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved and results of experiments. Interpreting, evaluating, and discussing the results of each experiment with the supervisor as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
• Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment. Work with and support others in a collegial, open, respectful, and interactive working manner. Work collaboratively with others in the lab to generate data for publications.

Basic Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Masters with two years’ research experience in a relevant field, with a major molecular biology or immunology component is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with yeast surface display of antibodies preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in a high stress environment with non-technical and technical staff.
• Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
