Are you a motivated student eager to gain hands-on experience in urban planning and community development? The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking a Planning & Community Development Intern to join our team over the summer months. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that shape our community while developing valuable professional skills.
As a Planning Intern, you will work alongside experienced staff and assist with a variety of projects, including business development activities, research on land use and zoning code trends, public presentations, corridor and beautification planning, design and planning commission application review, and other special projects as assigned. In addition to office work, you will have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork, including collecting photos and data to support ongoing projects. Special assignments may also be given, providing further exposure to the field.
Qualified candidates should be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field. Applicants should have proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
The position offers an hourly wage beginning at $20 an hour, depending on qualifications. Interns are expected to work between 25 to 35 hours per week, with a flexible schedule within the general office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
