Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner at Mercy Health | GoHealth Urgent Care summary:

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners in urgent care provide clinical services including diagnosis and treatment of acute conditions such as infections, minor injuries, and flu-like symptoms. They work independently or alongside physicians, requiring strong assessment skills to identify serious conditions and refer patients to emergency care if necessary. These roles demand medical expertise, experience with diagnostic tests, patient counseling, and use of electronic medical records in a fast-paced urgent care environment.

Job Summary

Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu-like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. Functioning in lieu of or alongside of a physician, it is essential for an urgent care Advanced Practitioner to have excellent assessment skills in order to recognize more serious conditions and direct the patient to the emergency room for advanced care when necessary.

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree required for Physician Assistants

• Master's Degree required for Nurse Practitioners

Work Experience

• 2-5 years of post-residency clinical experience required

• Minimum 18 months experience in applicable practice setting required

• Adult and pediatric practice experience strongly preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications

• National Certification

• Active state medical licensure

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Work experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting

• Applicable office procedures including but not limited to suturing, splinting, etc.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred

• Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records     

• Ability to be attentive with strong listening skills

• Strong communication and customer service skills

Essential Functions

• Examining and treating patients

• Taking patients’ medical histories

• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X-rays

• Making diagnoses and prescribing medications

• Treating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or casting

• Recording progress notes for follow-up patients

• Educating and counseling patients

• Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients

• Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care

• All other duties as assigned

Two Excellent Bonus Programs:

• Daily Volume Bonus  paid monthly based on patient visit metrics met per shift ( to reward those who work at the busier centers ).
• Quarterly Bonus  of up to 5% on top of your clinical base salary, based upon patient satisfaction scores and quality measures.
