Description
Solano Community College is seeking a qualified applicants for temporary part-time teaching assignments. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend courses. The district may cancel classes or change instructors as enrollment needs are determined.


The successful candidate will teach all levels photography courses, including introductory and intermediate digital photography, studio and location lighting, theories of composition, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and photography history and concepts. Focus would be on digital photo software applications, including Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.
This position is a part-time position. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. The assignments are as needed, during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. We seek candidates who are able and willing to train for and teach online as well as on campus.
The School of Liberal Arts at Solano Community College represents a broad spectrum of curriculum and programs. We are committed to providing quality programs and services toward developmental education, transfer degrees, and workforce development. Solano Community College's well-respected art program, within the School of Liberal Arts offers students the opportunity to take a variety of different courses within the field of art practice. Our curriculum develops a student's critical thinking skills, hones problem-solving skills, and establishes visual literacy. Our photography facility includes a state-of-the-art digital lab including color management tools and printers, a wet darkroom, and a studio well-equipped with ProFoto lights, as well as cameras, lights and other tools and equipment for student check-out.
We are seeking an applicant available to teach on campus in Fall 2022, as well as to be part of a faculty pool for possible future assignments.

Paid office hours are available to adjunct faculty in fall and spring semesters who teach a 40% assignment or more.

Responsibilities


  • Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
  • Inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
  • Meet administrative time lines and submit completed and required documents and reports.
  • Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
  • Participate in division staff meetings.
  • Keep Student learning outcomes current and assess courses.
  • Review of curriculum and assessment of student learning.
Instructors must also provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; review curriculum and assess student learning; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records, and both communicate and work effectively with others.

Minimum Qualifications


Qualified candidates must have a Master of Fine Arts in photography or a related field or a Bachelor's degree and significant professional experience in photography.

Preferred qualifications :
  • Master of Fine Arts in photography OR
  • Bachelor's degree in photography or a related field, and significant professional experience in photography.
  • At least two years of teaching photography and/or professional field experience in the photography industry
  • Expertise with Macintosh Computers
  • Demonstrated expertise with digital media software applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Expertise with current industry-standard electronic equipment, especially cameras and lenses, studio lighting equipment, scanners, and printers.
  • Experience with traditional photographic media and historical and contemporary trends in photography
  • Experience with job placement, internships, and clear advisement

All degrees must be from accredited institutions.

  • Knowledge of teaching; multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem solving strategies; and college academic requirements and standards
  • Sensitivity to students from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, (including those with disabilities, who have wide ranges of abilities).
  • Candidates must possess a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward learning
  • Competency with computers and other technological aids, and a willingness to stay current with new technologies, especially ones that could benefit the program;
  • Commitment to stay current with scholarship and development in field of expertise;
  • Willingness and ability to train for and teach in alternative modes, such as fully online and hybrid classes;
  • Willingness to participate in recruitment and articulation with area schools;
  • Possess a willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, special events, and School projects.
Adjunct faculty may purchase health and welfare benefits, at their expense, to the extent permitted by the District's health and welfare benefits carrier and/or broker.

Eligibility:

Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
