We are looking for a Waste Collection CDL Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will operate out of our Bronx Depot (315 Casanova St, Bronx, NY 10474) . This full-time, Union position requires overnight shifts, typically starting between 6 PM and 10 PM from Sunday through Friday. Shift duration may range from 10 to 12 hours and may vary based on operational needs. The primary responsibility of the Waste Collection CDL Driver is safely operating a rear-loading truck for the collection of waste and recyclable materials. You will work alongside a Helper and transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities, potentially making multiple trips during your shift. Operate the truck in compliance with IWS's safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws. Complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and report any issues. Ensure the security of containers and their contents, including periodic checks of tarps and ties. Monitor for safety and service-related issues and report to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch as necessary. Respond professionally to customer inquiries and complaints, documenting and reporting these interactions. Participate in required training sessions, operational meetings, and monthly safety meetings. Maintain a clean and safe work environment adhering to Corporate and OSHA standards. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States. Valid Class A or B CDL required with a clean driving record. Minimum of 1 year experience operating a vehicle requiring CDL A or B within the last 7 years; prior experience in waste collection is preferred. Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, to engage with the public and complete reports. Capable of reading and understanding maps. Must meet the physical and safety requirements of the position. Willingness to work required hours in accordance with DOT regulations, which may include weekends, nights, and holidays. Physical Requirements: The role involves lifting up to 50 pounds and frequently mounting and dismounting the truck throughout shifts. Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
