Job Description

Apex Systems is seeking a Network Engineer to support our national retail client. This is a W2 contract role requiring 1-2 days a week on-site in San Francisco.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves core network and security support, engineering: planning, implementation, analysis, maintenance, administration, and reporting within Retail, Corporate, and Supply Chain environments. The candidate must apply strong technical, business, and problem-solving skills, demonstrating initiative, leadership, and teamwork to foster productive relationships with business units and IT teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support 700 stores, corporate offices, and distribution centers.
  2. Collaborate with business and application owners on design, troubleshooting, and documentation of new deployments and enhancements.
  3. Architect, engineer, and troubleshoot Palo Alto/Fortinet firewalls and services.
  4. Design network and application solutions to comply with security policies and best practices.
  5. Participate in planning meetings and contribute design suggestions.
  6. Provide technical expertise for business initiatives and projects.
  7. Lead internal IT projects and initiatives.
  8. Participate in on-call rotation.
  9. Manage end-to-end project tasks and ensure successful completion.
  10. Configure and install network and security hardware/software.
  11. Support LAN (Cisco), WAN, WLAN (Aruba) networks.
  12. Handle WAN environments, circuit troubleshooting, and traffic management.
  13. Perform scheduled and emergency network maintenance.
  14. Maintain network/security documentation.
  15. Assist application owners with troubleshooting, regardless of issue origin.
  16. Conduct post-incident reviews and present findings.
  17. Deliver excellent customer service and facilitate team collaboration.
  18. Proactively resolve network issues to minimize business impact.
  19. Conduct security audits, vulnerability scans, and ensure policy compliance.
  20. Evaluate emerging security trends, products, and technologies.
  21. Manage project tasks using JIRA or similar tools.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Technologies: Azure, Fortinet, Palo Alto, load balancers (F5), Cisco, Aruba, VPNs, SSL certificates, and security appliances.
  • Experience leading P1/P2 triage calls.
  • Proficiency with data gathering tools and documentation (Visio, Lucidchart, Jira, SmartSheet, OneNote).
  • Strong customer service orientation and proactive attitude.
  • Experience with automation, monitoring tools (Splunk, Solarwinds), and security concepts.
  • Flexibility for off-hours work and on-call support.

SKILLS RECOMMENDED

  • Certifications: CISSP, CCSP, CCNP, CCWP, Aruba certifications.
  • Experience in WLAN design, network security, load balancing, and protocols.
  • Minimum 6+ years in networking/security; 8+ years in IT; Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
