Job Description

Our Client is seeking an Illustrator to bring an inspiring set of guiding principles to life through artwork. This role involves creating kid-relatable and visually engaging illustrations for a limited-run gift book project that blends sports metaphors, coaching themes, and life lessons into a unique visual narrative.

You Will:

  • Develop illustrations that align with 11 core values and life lessons in a way children can relate to while still appealing to an adult audience.
  • Design a cover concept, accent pieces for the back cover, and a title page that fit the tone of the book.
  • Create full-page illustrations (one for each of the 11 rules) that balance playful, kid-friendly style with abstract and conceptual themes.
  • Incorporate visual storytelling that resonates with a sports-oriented family, with baseball as a recurring inspiration.
  • Deliver polished artwork on a defined timeline to meet a special family gifting deadline.
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to ensure consistency across all pieces while leaving room for creative interpretation.
  • Ensure illustrations are adaptable for print production in a short-run book format.

You Have:

  • Experience as an illustrator with a portfolio showcasing both kid-friendly and conceptual or abstract work.
  • The ability to translate values and life lessons into approachable, relatable artwork for multi-generational audiences.
  • Strong design skills for book covers, page layouts, and small supporting accents.
  • Creativity to blend sports imagery, coaching metaphors, and playful design into a cohesive style.
  • An understanding of print-ready file preparation for small-batch book production.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with the client and bring their vision to life.
  • A strong sense of storytelling and visual metaphor to make abstract principles engaging for children and adults alike.

Project Timeline:

  • Week 1: Review text, creative brief, and initial discussion of style direction. Provide rough concept sketches for cover, accent pieces, and sample page.
  • Week 2: Incorporate feedback and deliver refined sketches for all 11 pages plus cover/title concepts.
  • Week 3: Present near-final illustrations for client approval and adjust as needed.
  • Week 4: Deliver finalized artwork, cover design, and supporting elements in print-ready format.
