  • Perform nesting bird surveys and monitoring; identify species and nesting behaviors by sight and sound in compliance with applicable buffer requirements and permit conditions
  • Conduct biological and environmental compliance monitoring during active construction activities
  • Coordinate with construction crews, superintendents, and project managers to ensure compliance with biological permit conditions and environmental commitments
  • Complete pre-construction surveys and daily monitoring documentation
  • Provide environmental awareness and sensitive species education to construction personnel
  • Accurately collect field data, photographs, GPS points, and monitoring observations and submit daily reports
  • Assist with data entry, organization, and management of biological records
  • Interpret and apply biological permit conditions, regulatory documents, and agency approvals
  • Communicate field observations, compliance concerns, and schedule availability to project managers and senior biologists
  • Perform other field or office support tasks as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in biological surveys, biological consulting, or construction/environmental monitoring
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and access to a reliable vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego County wildlife and plant species
  • Experience working with special-status species (federal or state listed, candidate, or sensitive species)
  • Familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, CESA, and FESA requirements
  • Experience using GPS units, Survey123, ArcGIS, ArcCollector, or similar field data collection tools
  • USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) permit or similar authorizations (preferred, not required)

Work Environment

This position is field-intensive and may involve:

  • Long hours in outdoor environments and temperature extremes
  • Walking or hiking on uneven terrain while carrying field equipment
  • Working in active construction sites around heavy equipment
  • Occasional travel throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties
  • Candidates must be physically capable of performing required field duties safely.
