Job Description
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and timely cost estimates for commercial roofing projects. This role involves interpreting blueprints, performing material takeoffs, soliciting vendor pricing, and developing bid proposals in alignment with company objectives. The Estimator plays a critical role in project acquisition and supports business growth through strategic estimating.
Key Responsibilities:
· Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand scope and requirements.
· Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs for roofing materials and labor.
· Develop cost estimates and proposals for new construction, re-roof, and service projects.
· Source and solicit competitive pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers.
· Perform job walks and site visits to assess project conditions and requirements.
· Collaborate with Project Managers, Foremen, and Operations to validate bid strategy and constructability.
· Attend pre-bid meetings and provide technical input during bid reviews.
· Maintain accurate records of historical pricing, labor productivity, and vendor quotes.
· Identify risk factors to improve bid competitiveness.
· Ensure all bids are submitted on time and in accordance with customer requirements.
Requirements:
· 5+ years of experience in commercial roofing estimating or a related construction estimating field.
· Strong understanding of roofing systems including TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up, and sheet metal.
· Proficiency in reading construction drawings and specifications.
· Experience with estimating software platforms.
· Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· An ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for job site assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience in commercial roofing supervision will be considered in lieu of a degree.
· Experience in estimating large-scale or multi-site commercial roofing projects.
· Familiarity with local building codes and permitting processes.
