Strategically guide and influence public policy, legislation, and regulatory matters that impact the organization. This key position involves developing and executing strategies to engage with government officials, policymakers and advocacy groups. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that the organization's voice is heard in policymaking arenas, building coalitions, and fostering positive relationships with government officials and other stakeholders. The position calls for a proactive approach to monitoring governmental activities, as well as an ability to act swiftly in response to legislative developments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive government relations strategies and plans.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory activities that affect the organization.
- Advocate for the organization's positions on various legislative and policy issues.
- Engage and build relationships with government officials, policymakers and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal departments to align government relations strategies with organizational goals.
- Draft policy position papers, testimony and other advocacy documents.
- Organize and participate in meetings, hearings and events with government representatives.
- Develop and manage relationships with industry coalitions, trade associations and advocacy groups.
- Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on public policy and governmental matters.
- Ensure compliance with all lobbying laws and regulations.
- Track and report on the impact of legislative and regulatory changes on the organization.
Qualifications
- Located in Washington D.C.
- Advanced degree in public policy, law, government or a related field.
- Extensive experience in government relations, public policy or advocacy in the U.S. is required and in Asian countries is a plus.
- Proven track record of successful legislative and regulatory advocacy.
- Strong network of contacts within the government and industry.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English is required and proficiency in Chinese is a plus.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience in the technology industry is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of experience with at least 10 years in government relations or public affairs.
- In-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory process.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials and policymakers.
- Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in research and data analysis related to public policy issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability travel to China, Singapore, South Korea and elsewhere as needed.
