Job Title: Plant Controller

Location: Yorktown, VA

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Plant Controller serves as a strategic partner, overseeing all financial operations within the manufacturing facility. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and driving financial performance in alignment with corporate objectives.​

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee the full general ledger for the facility, ensuring accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, providing insights into operational performance.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in collaboration with plant leadership.
  • Conduct variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, presenting findings to senior management.​

Cost Accounting & Inventory Control:

  • Maintain and update standard costs, ensuring accuracy in product costing and inventory valuation.
  • Monitor and analyze production costs, material usage, and labor efficiency to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Coordinate and oversee physical inventory counts, reconciling discrepancies and ensuring inventory accuracy.
  • Implement and monitor controls over inventory transactions, including cycle counts and adjustments.​

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
  • Ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and facilitate internal and external audits.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.​

Business Partnership & Strategic Support:

  • Act as a financial advisor to the Plant Management Team, providing insights and recommendations to support operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial models and tools that enhance decision-making processes.
  • Lead financial training sessions for plant personnel to promote financial literacy and accountability.
  • Assist in evaluating capital expenditure proposals, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and return on investment.​

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Manage and mentor the plant accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performance work environment.​

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.​

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in cost accounting, inventory management, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.​

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based within the manufacturing facility.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training or corporate meetings.
  • Standard working hours with additional hours as needed during peak periods.​
