Job Description

The Community Health Worker (CHW) plays a vital role in connecting research participants and their families to community resources to enhance health outcomes and address social determinants of health (SDOH) for the National Center for Opioid Research and Clinical Effectiveness (NCOR) and the LINK at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute. The NCOR will position Arkansas as a national leader in understanding the impacts of the opioid crisis on the fetus, newborn, developing children, and families. It will also accelerate development of effective evidence-based treatments that radically improve child health and inform state and national policy efforts. The CHW reports directly to the NCOR Director of Operations and will work closely with faculty, research teams, public health partners, community organizations and external organizations. With support from the LINK Program Manager, this position supports the development and sustainability of regional Community Advisory Boards (CABs), acting as a liaison between CAB members and healthcare providers. Additionally, the CHW assists with NCOR projects by facilitating participant recruitment, conducting field testing, and supporting project monitoring efforts. By strengthening collaborations between research initiatives and community programs, the CHW ensures that research findings translate into meaningful, community-driven solutions. The ideal candidate for the Community Health Worker position is a proactive and adaptable professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills. They excel at building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including families, healthcare providers, and community organizations. With a passion for community engagement, they are skilled at facilitating discussions, coordinating outreach activities, and supporting research initiatives. The candidate should be comfortable with in-state travel to attend community events and represent the organization at local and regional initiatives. A background in health education, social services, or community advocacy is highly beneficial, as the CHW will be instrumental in helping families access healthcare, social, and mental health services. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain regional CABs and act as a liaison between CAB members and healthcare providers. Assist with participant recruitment, field testing, and monitoring for NCOR projects. Link research projects and community programs to strengthen collaborations. Build relationships with community organizations and healthcare providers. Help families access healthcare, social, and mental health services. Travel to support community engagement events and represent the organization at local and regional initiatives. Additional Information: Required Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; Or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Work Experience: Related Field - 1 year of experience. Required Certifications: Drivers License - Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles. Description: Coordinate with primary care treatment team and family to address social determinants of health. Work closely with clinic Social Worker and/or Behavioral Health Clinician to reinforce treatment recommendations with patient in community settings and facilitate access to resources and referrals. Build relationships with local CBOs, outpatient providers, acute or residential psychiatric treatment facilities to support families throughout the process of accessing appropriate medical, psychosocial, and mental health services. Provide health education to patients and families on lifestyle and behaviors that promote wellness. Coordinate with providers and payers to help patients access the correct level of care in order to avoid healthcare crises. Assists patients with enrollment in programs and benefits for which they are eligible. Follows-up on referrals, resources, and recommendations to help address access barriers as they arise.
