Day in the Life of a Cash Posting Specialist

• Responsible for timely and accurate processing of remittances in EMR systems.
• 80% of duties involve posting payments to the practice management system (live checks, credit card, EFT deposits).
• 15% of duties balance batches and run transaction reports.
• 5% of duties record batch totals with date and initials on the payment receipt spreadsheet.
• Communicate and document payment denials properly in the practice management system and to the appropriate AR follow?up representative promptly.
• Identify improper payments or takebacks and communicate with the appropriate AR follow?up representative and/or supervisor in a timely manner.
• Balance payment postings daily, weekly, and monthly; collaborate with the accounting team to ensure balancing with deposit history.
• Adhere to state and federal regulations and system policies regarding compliance, HIPAA, integrity, and ethical billing practices.
• Manage daily reporting of key performance indicators through various reporting tools.
• Provide training and guidance to other team members as needed.
• Assist with a variety of projects and perform other duties as assigned.
• Monitor productivity based on time spent performing transactions.
• Self?report at the end of each business day, including start and stop times for each activity completed.
• Verify productivity using Batch Payments Summary (OTP) and Transaction Report (OBOT).

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 2 years of medical payment posting experience (ERAs/835s) and manual posting of EOBs in a hospital or physician office setting.
• General knowledge of HCPCS and CPT coding.
• Working knowledge of practice management software.
• Understanding of allowable/contractual amounts, payment terminology, adjustments, and identification of patient responsibility.
