Bar Manager/Lead Bartender (Seasonal, Full-Time)
Job Details:
The Bar Manager will oversee the daily operations of the outdoor bar at Big City Pickle Fulton Market, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, maintaining sanitation and safety standards, and fostering a positive work environment. Reporting to the General Manager, the Bar Manager will lead and support the bar team, manage inventory, and contribute to the overall success of the establishment. This role is perfect for a hospitality professional passionate about service, team-building, and seasonal beverage programs.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor seasonal bar staff, ensuring high levels of professionalism and service.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented atmosphere that aligns with the company’s culture and values.
  • Schedule and delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Provide ongoing training on cocktail preparation, beverage knowledge, and service techniques.
  • Address employee concerns promptly and communicate updates with the General Manager.

Operations:

  • Oversee the cleanliness and upkeep of bar areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and receiving of bar supplies, including liquor, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Monitor the quality and consistency of all drinks served, making adjustments as needed.
  • Assist with any and all corporate or private event menus as needed.
  • Ensure the bar team follows proper opening, closing, and safety procedures.

Financials:

  • Monitor and manage bar revenue, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded.
  • Track inventory and control costs through effective ordering and waste management.
  • Ensure adherence with financial reporting policies.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager on budget planning and forecasting.

Guest Service:

  • Interact with guests to ensure an outstanding experience, addressing complaints and feedback promptly.
  • Develop and maintain a seasonal beverage program that excites and engages guests.
  • Provide education to guests about the bar menu, including seasonal cocktails, wine, and beer options.
  • Create opportunities to elevate the guest experience, such as unique bar offerings or themed nights.

Experience/Skills:

  • 2–3 years of bar management experience in a high-volume setting, preferably seasonal operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of cocktails, wine, beer, and beverage service.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on training and team development.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Experience with POS systems (Square preferred) and inventory management software.
  • Illinois BASSET Certification and Serve Safe Food Handlers Certificate required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods, often exceeding 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
